At Public Prep, our commitment to scholars extends beyond 8th grade. We're here to provide opportunities, support, and guidance throughout your academic career and beyond.
A WARM WELCOME TO ALL
As Public Prep celebrates nearly two decades of excellence, we excited to see the Public Prep Alumni Program continuously grow and become stronger each year.
As our mission states, "We help scholars see the possibilities for themselves and prepare every scholar to achieve their highest level of success." The incredible achievements of our 1,200 alumni are living proof that it's working.
We want you to know, that Public Prep's commitment to our scholars and families extends well beyond the time they are enrolled at our schools. We are a supportive community and resource, with scholars to and through high school, ensuring our alumni are on the path to post-secondary success.
Our ongoing commitment to scholars and alumni includes:
We invite you to keep reading to learn more about our inspiring alumni and new alumni program and resources and thank you for your interest in the work we are doing to ensure the success of our scholars upon graduating from Public Prep!
Our alumni are the living embodiment of our shared values and commitment to excellence. Explore the stories of those who have traversed unique paths, overcome challenges, and emerged as leaders in their field. Their success is our pride as their incredible journey inspires generations to come.
By the time they graduate, Public Prep scholars have taken two Regents level STEM courses to prepare them for advanced math and science tracks in high school. They've also worked collaboratively on group projects and learned interpersonal skills. They've worked their way through the RULER program, to develop their emotional intelligence and prepare them to overcome any obstacle in their way. And in a single-gender environment, they've had the safe space to explore their identities and develop confidence and self-advocacy skills.
From student government to their first summer jobs, our students learn early on that they have the power to be leaders and changemakers in their communities. Each summer Public Prep hosts over 50 alumni through the Summer Youth Employment Program and our own internship program.
SUCCESS STORIES
Our alumni are the living embodiment of our shared values and commitment to excellence. Explore the stories of those who have traversed unique paths, overcome challenges, and emerged as leaders in their respective fields. Your success is our pride, and your journey inspires generations to come.
I'm originally from Harlem and moved to the Lower East Side in 3rd grade. My mom started looking for schools in the new neighborhood. Thankfully, she found Girls Prep Elementary.
When I got there, I was academically delayed in all subjects. I was on a first-grade reading level in third grade. I struggled with writing and grammar. The staff here took my situation seriously. By the middle of the school year, I was in Read180, a program designed to help scholars improve their reading and writing skills on a one-on-one level. Girls Prep empowered me to go on to high school and be able to balance school and a job, maintain above a 3.5 GPA, and get into Barnard.
Now that I am going to college, I still feel supported by my community. Attending Barnard College puts pressure on me I've never had. I'm still connected with a lot of my former teachers from Girls Prep via Insta and every time I post a milestone they comment with words of encouragement. Hearing things from adults who have known you for years makes a difference in how you view things.
"The advice I would give any student coming to Girls Prep would be to get good grades! Do your best and always be curious. Your older self will thank your younger self tremendously."
COMMITTED TO ALUMNI SUCCESS
As an award-winning network of charter schools across the Bronx, we guide scholars in realizing their inherent power and promise, through instilling the values of scholarship, excellence, community, and integrity.
Starting in elementary, we expose our scholars to various career pathways through College and Career Week, classroom Namesakes, guest speakers, college visits, and our College Knowledge course starting in 7th grade.
We work with scholars and families to provide personalized high school admissions counseling that ensures 100% of our graduates are placed in right-fit high schools that represent the top-performing schools in the city and country.
Because of the strong academic and character foundations we build through our whole-child model, our alumni are prepared to exceed expectations in high school and beyond.
Remaining with them on their journey, we provide layers of support throughout high school and beyond, that include:

I graduated from Girls Prep Bronx Middle School. My parents liked the idea of single-gender education and were blown away by the opportunities available to young girls. My parents are actually a part of the community! My dad is on the community council and my mom works in elementary school. My three younger sisters also go to Girls Prep and we all love it.
I was introduced to Breakthrough New York through Girls Prep and was able to study abroad. I never would have thought I would have this opportunity. I learned new things (including a language) and discovered what I hope to be in the future.
Looking at college, I was first accepted to the University of Arizona, then a couple of SUNYs and private institutions, including Smith University! I'm very proud of myself, and looking back to Girls Prep, I can see how they influenced me. Our core values are still something I hold myself to in order to achieve my full potential.
"The influence of single-gender schools allowed me to grow a love for Science, where women are underrepresented. I hope to be a web developer and major in computer science. Girls Prep left a huge impact on me and was a fulfilling experience will always honor."
